Abstract:
What happens when architecture expands beyond site and material to engage culture, identity, and ways of knowing?
Drawing on her Indigenous Placekeeping Framework, Wanda Dalla Costa explores how design can carry living knowledge systems—activating language, memory, and cultural practice within the built environment. Through built projects and research, she demonstrates how design becomes a vessel for meaning, contributing to cultural continuity while expanding the creative seeds that inform design.
Positioned at the intersection of contemporary design, Indigenous knowledge, and emerging technologies, this talk offers a new lens on modernism—reframing place not only as physical context, but as a living repository of culture.
Presented in partnership by the West Vancouver Art Museum and The Polygon Gallery.
Supported by The Compelling Opportunities Fund of the West Vancouver Foundation.
