E.1027: Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea is the story of interior designer and architect Eileen Gray, a frequently overlooked icon of modern design, and her struggle for recognition in a restrictive, male-dominated field.  The screening will be hosted at the Kay Meek Arts Center from 7 to 9 p.m.

Centring on Gray’s 1929 architectural masterpiece E.1027, the film sets the house's pioneering avant-garde architecture against the dramatic struggle unfolding within its walls. Built in the glow of the Côte d’Azur with the help of her lover and fellow architect Jean Badovici, the home was intended to be a personal refuge for the two. But the house didn’t remain a refuge for long and eventually fell into the hands of legendary architect Le Corbusier. To him the house became a mix of fascination and jealousy, and his subsequent alterations to the villa disregarded Gray’s expressed architectural vision, as he boldly allowed the architectural community to assume E.1027 was his own creation. Told through an unusual docu-fiction, blending archival footage with fictionalized re-enactments, the film artfully details the brilliant creative power of one woman, and a man’s desire to control her creations and overshadow her legacy.
