In celebration of West Coast Modern Week 2024, the West Vancouver Memorial Library has partnered with the West Vancouver Art Museum to showcase architectural photography by John Fulker and Selwyn Pullan, depicting modern homes designed by Arthur Erickson. His use of spatial openness and visual transparency, evident within the photographs of Fulker and Pullan, blurs boundaries between architecture and nature. Photographs which show an inward perspective of the homes present vistas of human living against a scenic backdrop, while outward perspectives offer panoramas of the landscape in motion. Together, they render spaces where humans and nature cohabitate in harmony. These photographs of six residences encapsulate the architect’s remarkable design vision and illustrate West Coast Modern aesthetics.
